Thanks for the post! I haven’t worked with or seen the Coollights in person before, so I’m not really able to comment on them (I would love a chance to see them, tho, if anyone in the area has a set I can check out). I do see that they don’t come with diffusion screen, eggcrate/honeycomb add-ons, or a mounting bracket/adapter. What that means is they end up being a bit more expensive than the Alzo version. They also tend to be “out of stock” a lot — I’ve been thinking about picking up a unit for them for a while now and can never seem to find a time when they are available for purchase.

All that being said, the Cool Lights guys have a great reputation (much like the Alzo guys) and frequent various filmmaking forums. They’re very customer service oriented. Really, you probably can’t go wrong with either brand, but you’ll save around $40 or more with the Alzos. As a cheap bastard myself, I tend to go for the money savings if the models are similar.
